Halloween Lookbook 2012

The spookiest night of the year is upon us. It’s Halloween! In between all the chores to run, scary decorations to put up, candies to stock up on and traps to set for those that decide to ‘trick’ (treat or not!) - we also need to glam up to go somewhere - hopefully, that somewhere is some poor soul’s debaucherous party!

Ok, so we’ve spent practically all year stressed out about what to be (Ghost, Ghoul and Vampire alike!) and how to wear it! We’ve rushed around to different party stores (physically and online), to try out the wares and probably ended up shelling out the dosh on some expensive costumes that more often than not, end up making one look like a big fat joke (there’s another costume idea for you!) and then these costumes finally, land up on the garage sale pile once the party is done. Sucks!

Enough is enough... we’re not wearing silly costumes anymore. This Halloween - we are investing some serious bucks to get that spooky look but with items we can wear again and again and again!

Scared? Read on....

So this is our take on a very spooky, sexy Halloween! And we think there are only a few characters that imbibe ‘spooky’ and ‘sexy’ in our thoughts, during the same neutron transmission. These are...

Hottest Vamps for Halloween 2012

Yes, yes, we do have a special mystery character. After all, what is Halloween without a little blood-curdling mystery?! We can also hope that you’ll stay till the end of this blog post to find out who it is... {evil laugh!}

So, without further adieu (coz you know those little monsters, begging for candy - will be here in no time!)... let us begin {play death siren in your head here}

I. Look Like... Morticia Addams:

Morticia, Morticia, Morticia... what do we say about you? Remember Morticia - the ‘real’ head of the Addams Family? She was/is gorgeous and spookily stylish! No wonder Gomez Addams was putty in her hands (We can challenge one man who won’t be!). And she wasn’t really all bad! Her style is classic - black, black and black! She was one vamp who knew how to add a ‘pop of colour’!

Look Like Morticia Addams
We’ve teamed up this beautiful, full length, clinched at the waist, Alice by Temperley, black dress with a ‘witchy’ looking art deco glass necklace by Pree Brulee and finished it off with shiny, strappy heels by Aldo. The pop of colour comes with the shimmery purple and blue eyeshadow by Nars and a Morticia must-have (or she would be Mortified!) are the red lips - brought to you by the cult brand ‘Lipstick Queen’s’ red hot red creamy lipstick.

As for the glittering cute bow on the dress? We can stick a needle in our eye and tell you that Morticia would totally approve!

And now for the rest of the team that help to complete the look...

Get The Morticia Addams Look
1. GHD Hair Straightener - Morticia or not, every serious fashionista should own a GHD! It’s the best 100+ Dollars or Pounds or Euros that you will ever spend! GHD gives you straight, ravenous, shiny locks in seconds!

2. Bobby Brown’s Gel Liner in Jet Black
- For the sake of not sounding like a stuck record... we’ll say it straight - this little pot of heaven belongs in your vanity kit (make sure you get the application brush as well!)... because once you use this gel liner on your eyes... you won’t want to use any other product to line your eyes - ever! This time, a different use for it (you need to look like Morticia after all!) - use it on your eyebrows instead of to line your eyes and say goodbye to the 15 brow look (because you’ve just accidently wiped your face or touched your eyebrows - when you had eyebrow pencil on) - because there is no way this liner is spreading unless you wash it off with soap and water! This one is a keeper for an everyday dark eyebrows look - just make sure you practice using it before you show off your dark, thick eyebrows off (the stuff is pretty potent and you literally need to use super-duper little of it to darken those brows)

3. Illamasqua Fake Eyelashes - Tapered,luxurious and full of grandeur! You will need this to complete the look!

4. ‘Saucy Jack’ Nail Colour from Butter London -  Red lips and red nails for Morticia are a must-have. This a perfect red hot blood red (in keeping with the theme!) colour. Best thing about the Butter brand is that their nail lacquers are free from damaging chemicals - someone say ‘organic’ nail polish? We’re not sure... but it may well be! Butter London carries some other gorgeous on-trend shades... we are a fan!

5. Nars Eye Dual Eyeshadow - 2 beautiful shades in one shot (we like that!). Here is a shimmery iridescent Orchid and iridescent Royal Blue - perfect blend for Morticia’s eyelids.

II. Look Like.... Elle Driver

There is no other like her. She, Elle Driver (Played by the Darryl Hannah in Quentin Tarantino’s cult flick ‘Kill Bill’), IS by far the meanest vixen on the planet. She is a lean, mean, killing machine and she is super fit to boot! Anyone wanting to dress up as Elle Driver for Halloween would garner so much attention - it’s unreal!

Darryl Hannah as Elle Driver in Kill Bill

There are 2 iconic versions of the Elle driver look - one where she’s in Black and White, looking tough and sexy...

… and there’s another one of her in a Nurses costume, with a look that would make a man sing and crap his pants at the same time. We thought we’d go for the latter - after all it is Halloween and we are trying to be scary!. All pieces here can be re-worn... yes even, the eye-patch (think! think!)

We’ve given the traditional nurses costume a bit of a make-over here, replacing it instead with a bodycon Andrea bandage dress (You can get side-tracked and go as a sexy mummy instead!) by Herve Leger. Hold a mean looking, gold studded, red leather envelope clutch by Aila. Put on sexy pair of red ankle boots with just a little peep - here we have a red hot Aldo number (we decided to skip strappy sandals as we wanted her look to be more sophisticated and less slutty).

To complete Elle’s killer looks, we’ve lined up a bunch of really great products - all of them classics...

Get the Elle Driver Look
1. Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Spray - This is for the gorgeous wind-swept look that Darryl Hannah’s Elle always wore so effortlessly. So much fighting and not a sweaty strand in sight! So whenever you’re in need of a casual, wind-in-my-hair kinda look - Surf it up!

2. YSL’s Iconic Red Lipstick - all we can say is WOW! Own this and you’ll never be sorry...

3. Benefit’s Bad Gal Lash - A must-have for all you bad gals out there. The look for lashes this mascara creates is deadly!

4. Essie's Red Hot Crimson Shade - The perfect red nail polish - Of course... Madonna, Gwyneth and Jennifer Anniston are all fans of the brand and of it’s most beautiful colours!

5. DuWop’s Lip Venom - We were saving the best for last! Want Angelina Jolie’s bee stung lips (and Darryl Hannah’s for that matter!) - look no further! DuWop makes this amazing venom that will sting your lips crazy! This goodness in a little bottle comes with the cutest packaging too! So go for this if you want a fool-proof-botox free puckerlicious lips look... like all the time - duh!?!

3. Look Like.... Jadis, The White Witch of Narnia

Right now, Vampires (thanks to Twilight, etc.) and Zombies (The Walking Dead etc.) are soooo in. But we decided to bring the poor, forgotten witches back! Who then is more stunning and stylish than The White Witch of Narnia (from C.S. Lewis’ books - “The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe”). The beautiful Tilda Swindon plays Jadis, the wicked White Witch in the movies and we can only envy her - what with all those innumerous, decadent costumes... But, as it happens, there was one costume that stood out for us - Jadis the warrior - dressed up as a ferocious lioness, with a mane no less, rearing to take on the perfect-in-every-way King of Narnia - Azlan. Yes, she loses the battle but totally lynches Azlan’s tail in the style stakes!

So we’ve recreated The White Witch of Narnia’s look - here.

Look Like Jadis, The White Witch of Narnia

Such a perfect look for the fall and takes you right into the holiday season as well. We’ve glammed up this beautiful, flowing tulle gown by Catherine Deane with a large fur collar to make up the mane. Use this inverted, crystal studded Alexis Bittar necklace on your forehead instead to make a statement. Also shouting out loud are these cascading Saturn Earrings by Lara Bohinc in different shades of gold. Finish off the look with these amazing vampy, strappy, gold glitter sandals by Jimmy Choo (Kate Middleton owns the same pair in silver, by the way!)

Here’s how you get Tilda’s golden glow and perfectly wild hair...

1. Perricone MD’s - No Concealer Concealer - So ideal for a perfectly light and feathery finish. Get rid of those dark circles... The White Witch won’t approve!

2. Bumble & Bumble’s Classic Hairspray - Smells yummy and after layering it up on your hair, your hair will not only look yummy, but will look yummy too. Get the high-volume, matte waif like look that Tilda rocks as a warrior queen with this classic hair spray.

3. Sephora’s Gold Glitter liner and Mascara - Gold line and lash up with this shimmery liquid gold in a bottle. Sparkle your eyes and add that oomph!

4. Bobbi Brown’s 24k Gold Shimmer Brick - Ideal to use on the areas of your face that you want to highlight (top of the cheekbone, nose bridge, upper brow etc.)... but when you’re trying the rock the Jadis look, we say you use it ALL OVER your body!

5. Makeup Forever’s Gold Lipstick - Gold in creamy paste form. Use a light colour of brown to base your lips and then slather this on with a lip brush - kaching!

And now, it’s time to reveal our very own spooky mystery character... {drum roll please!}

Jack-ie-Lantern!

We mean, seriously! Why is Jack-O-Lantern (he’s a man ain’t he?) allowed to have all the fun?

So we’ve conjured up this really fun glamset that will NOT make you , in the least bit, look like a pumpkin but has all those beautiful qualities that a pumpkin possesses - smooth, mushy, sweet, wholesome, spicy, comforting... and we’re just adding side orders of glamour and sexy to it.

Be warned - you’ll want to look like this at other times of the year too. But at this time, we’re proud to debut the - Jack-ie-Lantern look! You can find all the individual pieces here...

We’ve gone for a very vintage look with this glamset. Take this beautiful cowl neck, pale orange dress that just skims the knee, slap on a skinny patent green belt to clinch at the waist. It’s fall, it’s cold - so put your best knee-high green boots on (these ones are vintage YSL). We’ve added a handmade, fedora like wool green hat and gorgeous elbow skinning suede green gloves (a fashion must-have this fall). We’re finishing off this set with a beautiful, minty green pyramid enamel necklace from the folks at Pree Brulee -and you’re ready to go and you look spicy!

We didn’t bother with the make-up to go with this because to be honest, whatever you put on everyday will do just fine. But just so we have our two-cents is... maybe a lashing of orange lipstick?

Now go and scare someone!!!
